Champagne or sparkling wine Essay Champagne is a sparkling wine produced by a traditional method (Known as Method Champenoise) in the Champagne region around Reims and i pernay in north-eastern France. The word is derived from the Latin campagna, meaning countryside, a name given to this area of France since the Middle Ages. Although other French wine-producing regions claim to have made sparkling wine earlier, this was the first place to produce it in any significant quality or quantity. The primary aim of this seminar is to act as a suitable means to educate the audience on the subject of Champagne, while also identifying cost effective alternatives available to the consumer in the United Kingdom. The seminar intends to provide a comprehensible definition of Champagne as a product by examining a number of sources and consolidating the information into one succinct description. The seminar should then analyse the Champagne market both from a national and international perspective with reference to consumer trends, market leaders and consumer demographics. Following this, the seminar shall construct a benchmarking criterion using reputable Champagne available to the UK consumer. Reviews of the product shall be consulted in an effort to get a greater insight into its properties and characteristics, and it shall also be sampled to assist effective description. From this criterion, three widely available sparkling wines will be assessed and awarded points accordingly. A model Champagne alternative shall be identified and the decision justified followed by a conclusion and opportunity for audience questions. PLANNING In order to compile and deliver an effective seminar the most important factor to consider is the planning aspect. If suitable planning is carried out early and time to be spent on the piece is structured accordingly, it reduces last minute pressures and ensures that the content is the best that it can be. It also ensures that the copious amounts of research commonly associated with seminars and presentations can be spread across a manageable period to limit the possibility of information overload. Before preparing an action plan it is necessary to first decide upon the content of the seminar. What follows is a breakdown of what will be included in the presentation, subject by subject with a synopsis of what is anticipated each topic will comprise.

Chapter 25 1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In this chapter, Maya and Bailey are introduced to the idea of being moved to California, this being because of Bailey’s incident with a murdered black man. 2.a)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In this chapter Maya Angelou gives us some more insight on Mamma’s character, she establishes the reason for Mamma’s secretive and over-protective nature â€Å"Her African-bush secretiveness and suspiciousness had been compounded by slavery and confirmed by centuries of promises made and promises broken. We have a saying among Black Americans, which explains Mamma’s caution. ‘ If you ask a Negro where he’s been, he’ll tell you where he’s going’† (Angelou 164). In this paragraph Maya Angelou lets us know why Negroes at that time were so shielding of their privacy and how this related to Mamma telling them a ‘part truth’ to cover up the ‘real truth’ for them being sent away. Maya effectively develops Mamma through the situation that occurred when Bailey came home in horror â€Å" ‘ When I passed the calaboose, some men had just fished him out of the pond. He was wrappe d in a sheet, all rolled up like a mummy, and then a white man walked over and pulled the sheet off. The man was on his back but the white man struck his foot under the sheet and rolled him over on the stomach.’† (Angelou 167). Mamma’s instinct told her to get those kids out of there, no child should have to witness the atrocity of a murdered body. â€Å" Whatever the real reason, The Truth, for taking us to California, I shall always think it lay mostly in an incident in which Bailey had the leading part† (Angelou 165). Mamma’s action to get the children away solidifies the readers faith in her as being a strong, powerful and caring individual. c)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A story that illustrates life in those times is Bailey’s incident by the river. This illustrates the racism and unfairness against Negroes, and the senseless violence against them. â€Å"Then a white man walked over and pulled the sheet off. The man was on his back but the white man stuck his foot under the sheet and rolled him over on the stomach†¦ My, he had no color at all. He was bloated like a ball.† (Angelou 167) Any white person could kill a black person, and instead of being punished they were congratulated and given encouragement. Also, the black people had become desensitized so seeing their own people murdered since it was a frequent occurrence.

Analysis of Sylvia Plath Poems Essay

Stringency: A rigorous imposition of standards; A tightness or constriction; A scarcity of money or credit. Strictness: conscientious attention to rules and details The narrator makes reference to ‘a stake in your fat black heart’ and vampire imagery is clearly used here as vampire can only be killed with a stake through the heart. The stress falling on each word is like each pound and thrust of the stake. In addition, monosyllabic words create force and energy. The sentence is plosive and it is almost as if the heart is going to burst. We can understand the narrator’s possible dislike of domestic chores from her depiction of how ‘a sudden wind funnels at me/Slapping its phantom laundry in my face.’ The personification of the wind makes it come alive and the word ‘slapping’ is particularly explosive. It suggests that the wind is being harsh towards her. The word phantom shows death imagery. The ‘sudden wind could refer to the death of her father or perhaps the sudden discovery of her husband’s affair. This abruptness is supported by the following line because the phrase â€Å"a slap in the face† can be used to imply the element of surprise. The lake in Mirror ‘has drowned a young girl and replaced her with a middle-aged woman. Throughout the poem the mirror/lake appears as quite a sadistic character who takes delight in the girl’s sadness. This text informs us that her youth is passing and age is gaining on her; the word ‘young’ puts particular emphasis on this fact. The drowning could suggest that the girl has drowned herself in her vanity. We can liken the girl to Narcissus, who was so obsessed with his reflection that he couldn’t tear himself away and eventually died. The mushrooms declare that there are ‘So many of us! / So many of us!’ We read this line as if it has been yelled. This is assisted by the previous line – ‘little or nothing’ where nothingness suggests that the line itself is almost â€Å"quiet†. The mushrooms in this poem are linked to women in the time of Plath and so it is like they are yelling to be noticed. This poem is  written in a time period when women’s right were very much suppressed. The poem Ariel takes a turn in the stanza – White Godiva, I unpeel – Dead hands, dead stringencies. The word ‘white’ suggest starting fresh. ‘Unpeeling’ implies that the narrator is unpeeling her â€Å"layers†, and trying to find herself. Lady Godiva is famous for riding naked through the streets of Coventry which is quite a rebellious thing to do. The narrator is rebelling from the expectancies of women at that time. She does not want to follow the rules, the constrictions, the ‘stringencies’ and she makes this clear by referring to them as dead. ‘Dead hands’ could mean that her hands are ‘dead’ from doing household work and could also be a metaphor for the rules that have a hold on her.

Every country in the world has its own education system that makes it distinct from other countries, Vietnam and America are not exceptions. Vietnam and America are two unique countries that both share some similarities as well as differences in regard to the education system. Because of their differences in culture and language, each of them has their own ways of operating their education systems. Some remarkable differences include the division of school structure’s, the characteristics of public schools and private schools, as well as the influence of culture differences on teaching styles. In both countries, students have to go through primary and secondary school for a total of twelve years, beginning at the first grade in elementary school level. This can be considered as basic education. All children reaching the age of six begin first grade in primary school, which is also called elementary school. However, the way that America and Vietnam divide twelve stages of basic education is different. In America, elementary school starts from first grade to sixth grades, middle school starts from seventh grade to eighth grade, and high school is the last four grades that students have to complete in order to pursue higher education. Nevertheless, the first five grades are elementary school level, middle school is the next four years from grade six to grade nine, and high school only consists of tenth, eleventh, and twelve grade.
